When you go to the beach or to that perfect island retreat, you see it. You know what I’m talking about. It is when the sun sets just right and the water is calm and everything seems to stand still. It is a sight that takes your breath away. Moments like those I can’t help but look up. Nature displays God’s absolute beauty.

Job 12: 7-12

“But ask the animals what they think—let them teach you; let the birds tell you what’s going on. Put your ear to the earth—learn the basics. Listen—the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories. Isn’t it clear that they all know and agree that God is sovereign, that he holds all things in his hand— Every living soul, yes, every breathing creature? Isn’t this all just common sense, as common as the sense of taste? Do you think the elderly have a corner on wisdom, that you have to grow old before you understand life?”

The thing is that it only shows a glimmer of His beauty. That is only the surface. If the surface already caught your attention then below the surface will have you mesmerized. If you have had the privilege to see the beauty below the surface then you know that there is a whole new world there. Below the clear blue aquamarine water you will find all sorts of colorful and different shaped fish. The water teeming with life all around you. Life beyond what our eyes can visibly see and all of it is important.

I can’t help but praise the Lord as I take in all the beauty. I love how nature and the animals know what is right, correct, and true. They know that God is sovereign, ruler over all. The part in the verse that says, “Listen- the first in the ocean will tell you their stories.” is what really started The Ocean’s Narrative. We all have our stories and I realized that the ocean has a story to tell, it just needs someone to tell it. I hope to do the ocean justice and tell about her beauty, her challenges, and how we can make a positive impact.

I want to challenge you next time you are in nature whether it's a hike in a forest, laying at the beach, or a picnic with friends at the park. Take a deep breath and thank God for everything around you. Leave in the comments what is your favorite nature spot?

The mission of The Ocean’s Narrative is to tell the ocean’s story, her beauty, her challenges, and how we can help her. This is a place for believers in Christ and ocean lovers to belong. God created all things and called them good.
